Objectives:

1. Be aware of the physiological adaptations at birth, to recognise which newborn baby needs resuscitation and to what degree, to perform the relevant resuscitation actions with confidence and skill, to consider when to discontinue resuscitation, to physically assemble and use resuscitation equipment and to perform resuscitation scenarios in group settings.

2. To identify normal as well as abnormal respiratory features in a new born baby and manage mild or severe respiratory distress.
Be able to safely administer supplemental oxygen.
3. To distinguish between physiological and pathological neonatal jaundice.
Be able to investigate a baby with jaundice and be aware of the consequences of jaundice, interpret bilirubin values and manage jaundice appropriately and safely.
