Biomatrix Function Design
Estimated cost: R10 001 – R20 000
Field Of Study: Executive Development
Department Name: USB-ED
Objectives:The Biomatrix Course on Sustainable Design: Function (Re)Design teaches the generic principles of how systems are organised and how these principles need to be applied in order to create and implement a sustainable system design
and dissolve complex problems.
Participants learn about the (un)sustainability of systems and the role of limits, structure and stakeholder coproduction in it and develop a (w)holistic worldview, systems thinking skills and creativity in general.
They also learn about the design, development and transformation of systems, especially that of different types of activity systems (e.g. a project, function, process system, industry and governance function) and that all activity
systems are supply and value chains. Participants apply this knowledge to the design of an activity system, using a function (e.g. their work function) as their case study. In the context of an open course they use a function of their choice, while in an in-house programme
the client organisation will prescribe the function.
Completing the course enables the participant to apply this knowledge to other function (re)designs and development, as well as to other activity system related change interventions (e.g. project design).
