In this module we explore narratives of people with chronic medical conditions and how these are represented in research. We will carry out close, critical readings of illness narratives, by examining how these narratives function. We will then apply a critical perspective to the role of illness narrative in research, and to explore how these narratives affect perceptions of individuals and communities.

The module explores issues around power, truth and identity. We focus on agency and inequality and on liminality and closure.
