Objectives:

Full-day workshop: Teletherapy ¿ Ethical considerations and challenges

This full-day workshop (7 hours) will focus on several ethical aspects regarding service
delivery that have been highlighted in the COVID-19 pandemic. All psychologists, counsellors,
psychometrists and the allied professionals must adhere to the principles of confidentiality,
informed consent and record keeping (including treatment and payment), but how should this
be applied on electronic platforms? Telecommunication, telemedicine and the and the utilisation of
social media (platforms) for telemedicine, will be discussed. The implications of ethical
and legal considerations of reporting, as well as matters around insurance and POPIA
will be highlighted. Guidelines around competence and standard care, as well as technical
skills will be discussed and applied to practical case examples.
