Objectives:

Production practices - To explain and demonstrate:
¿ requirements regarding grape quality and production practices needed to produce export-quality raisins.
¿ characteristics and cultivation requirements of the most important raisin grape cultivars and rootstock cultivars used for raisin grapes, linking the natural cultivar characteristic to the required production practices. Industry overview - To provide an overview of and explain:
¿ climate and other requirements for raisin grape production, as well as the SA and global raisin grape industries.
¿ South Africa¿s role in the global raisin grape industry, SA¿s major markets, and competitors in the global raisin grape market. Harvest and post-harvest practices - To explain and demonstrate:
¿ harvest and post-harvest handling processes of raisin grapes, to produce quality raisins.
¿ different raisin products and principles of raisin quality grading. Mechanisation - To explain and demonstrate:
¿ the ¿Dry-on-Vine¿ technique, including its advantages, disadvantages, and requirements for successful practical application.
¿ principles, techniques, and requirements for successful practical application of mechanisation of raisin grape and raisin production practices, including pruning, canopy management, lye application, and harvesting.
