Objectives:

The purpose/goal of this course is to provide researchers with a nuanced understanding of how to engage with the media in order to encourage the use of evidence in decision-making. The objectives of the course:
Remind participants of concepts covered in the precursor foundation course on the importance of Evidence-Informed Decision Making, as well as key concepts relevant to the science, art & context complexity of Knowledge Translation.
Introduce participants to how the media operates, the media landscape
Introduce participants to how science news, features and editorials can be produced without compromising the quality of the scientific information.
Inculcate an understanding and desire to build relations and engage with the media
Enhance the skills and capacities of researchers to package their research in a way that is relevant and accessible to radio, TV, print and electronic media
Train participants in how to prepare a media pitch
Train participants in media interviewing skills
