Objectives:

The course aims to equip learners with a strong foundation in cucumber biology, growth requirements, and the production systems used in both open-field and undercover farming. By the end of the programme, participants will have developed practical skills in site selection, soil, or substrate preparation, and choosing suitable cultivars for different environments. They will gain competence in core production practices such as planting, trellising, pruning, and general crop maintenance, while also learning effective irrigation and fertilisation strategies that support healthy plant development.
Additionally, the course focuses on building the ability to identify and manage common pests and diseases through basic IPM principles. Participants will also be guided on how to assess crop performance, recognise early signs of stress, and make informed management decisions. Finally, the course provides training on proper harvesting and post-harvest handling techniques to ensure high-quality cucumbers, ultimately empowering participants to grow healthy, market-ready crops at both small-scale and emerging commercial levels.
