The main objectives of this workshop is to:
– Discuss a selection of the most exciting novels and poetry collections that have appeared in Afrikaans in recent years
– Pay attention to aspects such as the author’s oeuvre, genre, structural features, authorial techniques and thematic elements.
– Show how certain theoretical angles (such as gender studies, postcolonialism, psychoanalysis and ecocriticism) can be used to unlock literary texts and enrich one’s understanding of them.
– Give course participants the opportunity to analyse texts and sections of text and provide input in the discussion.
