Objectives:

The aim of this course is to equip those who deal with abortion to critically analyse the relevant ethical arguments, understand how to communicate with abortion patients and have a knowledge of legal, cultural and religious positions on abortion.
One of the key work areas of the Clinical Genetics Unit relates to genetic counselling of pregnant women with foetal anomalies, teratogen exposure, or a family history of genetic disorders. Counselling is non-directive and aimed at assisting women in difficult emotional circumstances to come to terms with their risk or diagnosis, and where relevant to make informed decisions on continuing their pregnancy or to opt for termination of pregnancy.
