Objectives:

This course will cover the basic principles of wood drying and consists of self-study lecture notes with assessments on the following topics:

- General wood drying
- Air drying
- Kiln drying
- Setting of drying schedules
- Drying defects.

It is ideal as refresher for all sawmill employees, or foresters lacking the wood science background. This course will give an overview of wood drying techniques. This is part of the module wood physics and drying in the wood science BSc programme, however, there are regular enquiries from industry to offer a short course on wood drying for people that do not hold a Wood Science degree. The course will give an overview of wood drying methods and techniques. It is part of an existing second year Wood Science module (wood physics and drying), however, there are regular enquiries from industry to offer the wood drying component individually for people that do not hold a wood science degree.
